February 5, 2010
dear granny,
today is friday! yay!
It’s about 5, I’ll probably be going to dinner soon.
We just had the group process, which was a bunch of group activities working with other RA candidates. I think I did really well, I’m happy with what we did.
There was an opening icebreaker where we got slips of paper and had to make animal noises to find our partner. We really didn’t do much with these people, but it was pretty funny because I had to act like a chicken, Bri had to make monkey noises, and Jake made lion roars. hahah
The next thing was going through a list of 10 things on a “to do list” and prioritizing. It was the kind of hellish to-do list that no one should ever have to deal with. It included a report due in 30 minutes that you haven’t even started, a call from your mom about something “IMPORTANT!”, and a suicidal hallway resident. MY group was pretty efficient and we talked stuff out and wound up agreeing on a pretty good order.
It was kind of weird with RA’s listening and sort of lingering around the tables, but they had to observe us and I was surprised how easily I could tune them out and just focus on the task at hand.
The last thing we had to do was with another group of people we didn’t know (we counted off and split up) and we got to design a new dorm and come up with three policies and three programs. It was great. You had an unlimited budget but they kept throwing conditions at you, like “no right angles!” and “you have no money for programming, even though you have so much for the facilities.” My group was really awesome and I don’t really remember their names, but I know their faces and I hope they all get hired :] they were pretty awesome.
I’m gonna do homework early, I guess. You know, get a head start on stuff. Maybe. I mean, for once I’m actually in the mood to do homework, but something might well distract me before then.
Well, hope you’re having a good weekend so far! :]

January 29, 2010
dear granny,
today is friday.
It’s the middle of the day, actually. I haven’t even gone to lunch yet. But since I haven’t written in a few days, I’ll still have stuff to talk about.
Yesterday I went to a one-woman play about St. Catherine put on by Bill Murray’s sister. It was pretty cool, actually, even though it was way longer than I thought it would be.
The day before (wednesday) I went to website design class after having finished my homework due that day at 1am that very day. Then I proceeded to not pay attention, but totally understand everything he taught. I beasted out the stuff due next wednesday and later that day I started my website design final project. (we got the requirements early so we can make it as we go, if we want, which I’m doing because that way it’ll be sheer AWESOMENESS by the time I’m done). The fake business will be a cupcake-making one. :]
That day was also Bri’s birthday (Alicia’s roommate). We went to the Moose (the coffee shop) and hung out upstairs. Sarah, Jake, Robert and I played pool while the rest of the people played imaginiff. The cake was plain white cake, but the frosting was colored to look like a watermelon. it didn’t taste different than just generic frosting, but I was still hesitant to try it because I didn’t want to be surprised by watermelon-flavored frosting. That would have been really gross. I won pool against Sarah once or twice on my own, I don’t remember, and then when the boys joined and we played teams, robert won one for us and I almost won the second game (I was going for the eight ball, Sarah and Jake had 4 or 5 of theirs still on the table besides the 8 ball) but I called the pocket it would have made sense to go in, but it went in another one on a fluke, so technically we lost. It was very upsetting. :[ hahaha
Today, elliott's coming. He's almost here, in fact. I'm doing laundry now and it should be done around the time they get here. Breakfast was ehhhh. There was bacon, but it was kind of soggy. I tried mixing frosted flakes and froot loops. It's not an advisable combo. It's okay, but not worth it. Especially if one or both are stale. :]
That’s all I’ve got so far today. Maybe I’ll write again later? I don’t know yet.

January 18, 2010
dear granny,
it’s monday
and I haven’t updated in a loooooong time. I apologize.
today I went to classes. a lot of classes. today is the day I don’t get lunch at all. I had earth environments, then humanities, then earth environments lab (which is basically more lecture time). then spanish later, which is a class of 7 kids. I was late the first day, last monday, on accident, but I’ll never make that mistake again. it’s really awkward when you realize you’re the only one who didn’t get there on time.
Anyway, today after dinner Sarah and Alicia and I went to the dollar store and party city and bought party hats and decorations for Tiffany’s birthday tomorrow! It’s very exciting and there’s a lot of pokémon stuff involved :]
Your cake will go to good use, too. I’ve saved it for tomorrow so between that and the cupcakes Alicia’s mom sent, she should have something for everyone to eat whenever we do her party.
I mean, I can’t wait for my birthday next month, but I’m more excited for tiff’s birthday tomorrow! She’s never really had a party. Especially not on her actual birthday. I’m soooo excited. :]
I only have spanish tomorrow, too, so that makes things even cooler. Although, I have a lot of homework, in exchange for not having communications tomorrow, which I’ll probably have to start on tonight.
I hope you’re having a good week!
love,
<3 marah

December 6, 2009
dear granny,
today is sunday.
I did a whole lot of nothing in the way of homework.
mostly because I really didn’t have any.
Well, I have a take-home test due sometime at the end of the week, but I’ve got plenty of time. :]
I made a bunch of jewelry today, but I still have to work on some more, including your stuff from forever ago that I never finished. oops. :0
I’m very excited for Wednesday because that’s when we’re doing secret santa, and basically Christmas, for our group of friends. it’s going to be GREAT.
I lectored at mass today, too. I love advent. It makes me happy. :] it’s PURPLE.
… which reminds me of my knee. (which is also purple). I fell on an asphalt path chasing an enemy in an epic snowball fight and I wiped out. Graceful as I am (psshhhh hahahaha) I bruised the heck out of my left knee and it now sports an orange bandaid over the part that BLED. ick :[
anyway, it's getting better. Two weeks, or something like that, until I come home for Christmas break! :]
love,
marah <3
PS: I re-learned euchre so I can play when I come home, I suppose. :]

December 3, 2009
dear granny,
today is thursday
and it’s SO busy.
I have a math presentation tomorrow.
Plus communications homework I [oops] haven’t done yet.
But it’ll get done, I promise. ;]
I was sitting in alicia’s room, doing my homework like a good little girl.
then sarah came in and we were talking, but she kept bringing up the snow.
Then, all of a sudden, we had decided to go out and play in the snow :]
Needless to say, I half-walked-half-ran to get my boots and coat from the OPPOSITE freaking side of the building. Then we went and had a grand old time in the snow.
We threw snowballs, got attacked by a group of guys with bad aim, threw more snowballs, tried (and failed) to make a snowman, got donuts from a friend who walked by and offered them (good thing we didn’t pelt him with snowballs, first), then we went inside again and tried to dry out our mittens and coats and such.
We’re fun kids, here. I tell ya.
I am so excited there’s snow. I’ve been having a horrible day as a combination of boys being stupid and homework piling up, but the snow made everything better, somehow.
Snow’s just like a clean slate, I guess.
well, tomorrow’s a new day. With a math presentation to do.
Hope you’re as excited about the snow as I am :]

November 23, 2009
dear granny,
it’s sunday.
I had a pretty good weekend, actually.
My friends are crazy and lots of weird stuff like wearing a unicorn horn on my hoodie’s hood ensued.
I finished the bulk of my homework early so that today was wonderful.
I am having a great time because my friends and I do stuff like play video games and talk about stuff that makes absolutely no sense.
I have stories for you that would take too long to recant on here, but I’ll be sure to inform you and mom on the inner-workings of my social life.
Anyway, I’m sorry for not updating.
I come home this week for thanksgiving! Are you excited? :]
love, marah
